Europe has been called a tax hell. High taxes, strict rules and increasing pressure on entrepreneurs. So what are your options if you actually want to keep more of what you earn? Because if all your income, your business and your residency is tied to one single country, you're exposed. And if you're making, let's say, $100,000 per year, you're kind of stuck in this middle zone. you are considered a high earner and perhaps paying over 40k in texas in your home country but earning not enough to justify complex and expensive offshore structures and that is exactly who this video is for i'll show you five low tax residencies you can actually get that are accessible for entrepreneurs like you so you can potentially reduce your taxes to zero improve your banking setup and give you more control over how you live and operate let's start in south america with one of the most popular options nowadays Paraguay. And this is one of the easiest residencies on earth to get at one of the cheapest to maintain. Paraguay uses what is called a territorial tax system. This means the only tax income earned locally inside the country. So if you're running an online business, you're maybe a freelancer, or you're doing e-commerce with clients outside of Paraguay, you're looking at 0% tax on that foreign income. And the standard setup looks like this. Your company sits offshore. This can typically be a US LLC. a Hong Kong company or something similar. Then your business bank accounts stay outside of Paraguay. And since the income is earned outside of the country, Paraguay doesn't tax it. This is also something we helped to set up. So if you want to build a setup like this, there will be a link down below. And you can then decide to bring your money into Paraguay into a local personal bank account. But I must say, Paraguay banking isn't the strongest in the world. So in most cases, you wouldn't actually bank there. You'd keep your business banking in the US with a US LLC and personal banking in other offshore jurisdictions, like for example the Channel Islands for maximum privacy and financial separation. Now I have a separate video on the best offshore bank accounts for exactly these kinds of tax setups, so I'll leave it down below. Another huge advantage is that Paraguay doesn't have a minimal stay requirement to be considered a tax resident. Not 60 days like Cyprus and not 90 days like the UAE. With this setup, you can literally go to Assangean, which is the capital, get your temporary residency, and about 50 days later, you can receive your ID card, the Cedula. And from that point, you're officially registered in the country. That is why it's often called an insurance residency, since it's such a flexible residency. So if you're someone who likes to travel a lot, maybe three months in Bali, Three months in Thailand, three months in Mexico, without staying in one place for a prolonged time, Paraguay gives you an official tax residency with a stable address in the background. This makes banking and compliance much easier when you're running a zero-tax setup that doesn't raise questions. But there's one thing you need to watch out for. You can't accidentally become a tax resident somewhere else. Especially if you're coming from Europe, where countries tend to have stricter rules around tax residency. Paraguay doesn't have a strong tax treaty network, so the burden is on you to manage where you spend your time. You especially need to ensure you're not triggering tax residency back in your home country. Then in terms of cost, you're typically looking at around $2,000 to $4,000 in total, which is extremely cheap compared to most other residencies. And after two years, you can convert this into permanent residency, valid for up to 10 years. And from there, you could potentially apply for citizenship. Although that would require more actual presence and integration. Next up, let's move to the Caucasus region with the country of Georgia. This one has been gaining a lot of popularity recently, especially among freelancers and solopreneurs. And for a good reason. It is extremely business friendly with one of the lowest legal tax setups you can get with an incredibly low cost of living. You might have ever heard about Batumi, people talk about it, of Georgia's Dubai on the Black Sea, and it's also been getting a lot of attention lately. Now the first big advantage is how easy it is to enter. For many nationalities, including the EU, the US, and UK citizens, you can stay in Georgia for up to 365 days. completely visa free. This means you can literally test the country for a full year before having to commit to anything. And Georgia has something called the small business status, where you pay just 1% in tax for revenue up to around $180,000 per year. If you exceed that limit in a year, the excess may be taxed at 3%. So if you're making, let's say, $100,000 in revenue, you're paying $1,000 in tax. That is it. To qualify, you register as an individual entrepreneur, which is fast, low cost, and very straightforward. It is usually around $100 to $300 to register with minimal ongoing fees. So this isn't a corporate structure, it's more like a sole proprietorship. This setup works best if you are a freelancer, a solopreneur, a consultant, or running a lean online business with high profit margin. And unlike Paraguay, Georgia does have some solid banking options. You have Bank of Georgia or TBC, they're widely used. They're very accessible even to non-residents and talked about as very crypto-friendly. There are also premium options like solo banking, where you get a dedicated account manager and a more dated experience. On top of that, the cost of living is still very low compared to most of Europe or other places like the UAE. So the money you make goes much further combined with the low taxes. So it's a great place to build your wealth when you're still in its starting phase. Now a key thing to understand, this is only going to work if you actually live in Georgia. To benefit from this tax setup, you have to become a tax resident, which means spending at least 183 days per year in the country. So comparing it to Paraguay, it is not as flexible. But in return, you get a very simple and predictable tax system. Another predictable tax system is in the Middle East, which is of course the UAE and in particular Dubai. And across all Gulf nations, there's no personal income tax. Now, the UAE isn't completely tax-free like it used to be. They introduced a 5% VAT and later a 9% corporate tax on profits above roughly $100,000. But in practice, depending on how you structure things, that tax can often be minimized or even avoided. The way most people get residency in the UAE is often done through company formation. You set up a company in one of the free zones, which can often be done remotely. And after that, you go to the UAE in person to complete the final steps, like the medical test, the biometrics, and getting the Emirates ID. This is also something we offer through our local partner, where we help clients move and incorporate in Dubai. It's actually the exact process I'm going through myself as well, since I am moving to the UAE too. So if you want to know more information, you can check it out down below. A big advantage of the UAE is the banking system. You get access to top tier banks like Emirates MBD, MASHRAC and ABCB. These banks work really well with international businesses and payment processors with something that's often a problem in other low tax jurisdictions. Now to be considered a tax resident in the UAE, you generally need to spend around 90 days per year in the country, which is a relatively low threshold. To simply keep your residency active, you only need to enter the UAE once every six months. Otherwise, it can become inactive. Now this option is higher end. You're looking at around $5,000 to $10,000 just for the setup. Dubai cost of living isn't cheap and your company license renewal runs at about $4,000 a year. But where it gets interesting is how the corporate tax works in practice. Let's say your company makes $500,000 in profit. The first $100,000 is only tax-free. Then you could pay yourself a salary at, for example, $300,000, which reduces the company's profit and is taxed at 0% personally. That only leaves around 100k in the company, which is the only part that would be subject to the 9% corporate tax rate. So in reality, your effective rate stays very low if you're structured properly. And unlike some other setups like Paraguay, the UAE is actually a place where you'd want to live. High living standards, safe, a great environment, and right in the middle of the world with excellent connectivity. you're not bouncing around constantly, you're building a real home base so you can build a network, real life, and that is the actual advantage. Now let's move back to South America, with a country I like to see as a mix of both Paraguay and the UAE, which is Panama. It uses the same territorial tax system as Paraguay, meaning foreign income isn't taxed locally. But unlike Paraguay, Panama has solid banking and a real city you can actually live in long term, more like the UAE. The main route into Panama is through the Friendly Nations Visa. This applies to around 40 to 50 countries, including most Western nations. The most common setup is forming a Panamanian company and hiring yourself, which gives you a temporary residency, usually for two years, that you can later convert into permanent residency. The process is fairly straightforward, but compared to a few years ago, Panama has tightened up a bit. It does require more substance and costs roughly $4,000 to $6,000. You live in Panama as a tax resident, which has a 180-day stay requirement, and your foreign earned income stays completely untaxed. Panama City itself feels a bit like a Miami light, a modern skyline, an international vibe, and a growing business hub. So this is a place where you can actually live long-term, not just to hold a paper residency. Now, one of the biggest advantages of Panama, especially compared to Paraguay, is the banking system. It's significantly more developed with banks that are used to working with international clients. and focused on wealth protection. On top of that, Panama uses USD banking, which makes it much easier if you're dealing with international payments. And unlike places like the UAE, your time here can actually count towards citizenship. So if you live in Panama for around 5 years while benefiting from its territorial system, you can potentially apply for a second passport. So yes, Panama is a bit more expensive and requires more presence, but in return you get a more complete setup with real long-term upside. Now let's move over to South... Southeast Asia with a slightly different system Thailand. Thailand isn't what it used to be back in the day but it's still a solid option if you understand how it works now. They operate on a remittance-based system meaning you only pay tax on the money that you actually bring into the country. It's no longer the simple keep your money offshore and pay nothing set up like it used to be and that is kind of what Panama still has but here's how Thailand works now if you spend over 180 days per year in Thailand you become a Thai tax resident and foreign income is only taxed locally if you're admitted into Thailand so if you send it to a Thai bank account or spend it locally this applies to income earned from 2024 onwards But there is a way to structure this where you're paying almost no tax while living in this amazing country. Thailand is one of my favorite places in the world with a very low cost of living. And here's how smart people are doing it. One example of clients we work with is the following. They want to live in Southeast Asia, so they move to Thailand and get that tax residency there. Then they have their company based in another country, most commonly in Hong Kong. This is in the same region and can also be structured as zero tax if the income is earned from outside Hong Kong. So on one side, you have your business banks in Hong Kong with all your operations running through that entity. And as long as the money stays offshore and outside of Thailand, it's not taxed in Thailand. But the moment you transfer money into the country for living expenses, that portion becomes taxable. This means you can keep most of your profits offshore and only bring in on what you need. And since Thailand is a very affordable country, you might only need about $2,000 a month for living, and you only pay tax on that amount. So even if you make a million dollars per year and keep that money outside of Thailand, and you only bring in, let's say, $20,000 per year into the country for living, you would only pay tax on that $20,000, which is very, very manageable. This would roughly translate to around $1,700 USD in tax. Now the reason this structure works comes down how Thailand determines corporate taxation. Thailand determines corporate residence based on the place of incorporation, not where the business is managed. In many countries there are very strict place of effective management rules or POEM rules. These rules basically say that if you're running a company from the country you live in, that company can be taxed locally, even if it's incorporated abroad. Thailand doesn't apply these rules the same way. It also doesn't have aggressive CFC rules like many Western countries. What this means in practice is that if your company is genuinely operating offshore, for example, through a Hong Kong entity and your clients are outside of Thailand, that income is not automatically pulled into the Thai tax net. As long as you don't bring that money into Thailand, it remains outside the scope of Thai taxation. The only risk is if you're running operations locally. If you have local employees, an office, or if you're selling directly into Thailand, authorities may consider that Thai-sourced income, which can be fully taxable. So for Thailand, not as perfect as it used to be, but still a great option. And at the end of the day, paying low or even 0% tax mainly comes down to where you personally are based, where you spend your time and where you are considered a tax resident. Just having a zero tax company on its own does not mean you personally pay 0% tax. You need to combine the right residency strategy with the right corporate structure. In most cases, the best option is to become a tax resident in a country that either has no personal income tax or only taxes local income. Because if you stay in a high tax country like the Netherlands or Germany, and you're managing your offshore company from there, they will still tax you based on local tax rules. This is important to get right. Now, if you want help with any of these setups, and for a lot of them, like Paraguay, Thailand, and the UAE, we actually offer these in-house and through our partners. You can check everything on the website. I will leave a link down below. I will also link some more in-depth videos where I break down each of these structures step by step. I hope this helped you out. Thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
