So here's a stat that will likely make every salon owner uncomfortable. The average salon loses 65 to 70 percent of first-time clients who never come back. It's not because they had a bad experience and not because they didn't like the service they received, but many times because nobody asked them to come back. Let's think about that, right? You've spent money on marketing to get them in the door. You just gave them an amazing service. They left happy and then they just forgot about you. Their life got busy, they drove past another salon, they saw an ad, and now there's someone else's client. The difference between struggling salons and thriving salons isn't always about talent or location, it's about rebooking systems. It's also about making sure that every client who walks out your door has a reason and a reminder to walk back in. And that's why today I am sharing four strategies to increase your rebooking rates, and then I'll show you exactly how to implement all four using one single platform. Let's get into it. So strategy number one is going to be to pre-book at checkout, not after. And there is some strong psychology behind this. The moment your client is checking out is the moment they are happiest with you and the salon. Their hair looks amazing, they feel confident, they're literally standing there with their wallet and credit card in hand. This is the single best moment to secure their next appointment. But that's not what most salons do. Many salons hand over the receipt, will say see you next time, thanks so much, and just hope that the client remembers to call in six weeks. But spoiler, they won't. So instead, make pre-booking part of your checkout process. Before you run the card, be sure to phrase it in a way that makes it the benefit of rebooking clear to them. That can be as simple as, let's get you on the schedule for your next appointment. Christmas is coming up in a couple weeks. Are you typically a four, six week, or eight week person? Tying it to something that matters to them that they want to look good for is a great way to make them realize, oh my life would be easier if I just booked this right now. And if possible, try to avoid asking if they want to book. You want to try to use when language. This subtle shift makes a huge difference and it can feel pushy at first, but it's all about finding that balance between using when without making it sound like they have no choice because of course they can always decline. Another pro tip to make this even smoother is to make it friction list. If your checkout system or booking system has quick pre-book buttons for four, six, or eight weeks out, definitely use them. Because if your front desk is standing there scrolling through a calendar, again, the odds of that client saying, oh, I'll just call, get higher and higher. One click, they're booked, they're done. And salons that pre-book at checkout see rebooking rates jump from 30% to 60, 70, and even 80%. This is one of the highest impact changes you can make in terms of increasing your rebooking rates. Strategy number two is to automate we miss you campaigns. Because even with pre-booking, some clients are going to slip through the cracks. They'll cancel and not reschedule. They'll book with a different stylist who leaves and then not pick a new one at your salon. Life happens. But the key is to catch these clients before they become someone else's regulars. And you do that with automated outreach. Here's how it works. You set up a marketing campaign that automatically triggers when a client hasn't booked in a certain time frame. This could be 60 days, 90 days, 120 days. The system will then send them a message without you lifting a finger. That said, personalized outreach is going to beat a generic blast every time. So, hi Sarah, it's been a while since your last balayage and we'd love to see you. Lands way better than book now. See what I mean? Another thing that most salons miss is that email and text messaging work together best. Some people check email religiously. Some people never open it, but will meanwhile respond to text instantly. So if you can send both staggered, so you know, an email one day, a text a few days later, an email a week after that, you're going to catch more people this way. And the beauty of these campaigns is that they can run in the background, whether you automate it to trigger when someone hits that 60 day mark, or you're going in there once every couple months and saying, everybody who hasn't been in for the last two months, send them a message. Once you set that up, it's going to just re-engage lapped clients while get to be behind the chair doing your actual work. Strategy number three, send rebooking reminders before they forget. And this is different from the we miss you campaigns that I was just talking about. That is going to target a client who's already lapsed, who's already been gone for quite some time. This strategy with rebooking reminders are more proactive. They reach clients before they fall off. So the key is to time these reminders based on service type, right? A men's haircut client is going to need a reminder at three to four weeks in most cases. A color client might be five to six weeks. Keratin treatment, 10 to 12 weeks. And being specific with these reminders will make them even more effective. So, hey, it's been six weeks since your last color appointment is a totally different message than time to book. Again, you see the difference there? It shows that you're paying attention and that you actually care about the client. It also reminds them exactly why they need to come back because you know when they get the text saying it's been six weeks since your last color appointment, they're going to find the nearest mirror and see how bad their roots are looking. It creates a little bit of urgency too, because it's stuck in their mind now, the thought of, oh, my roots are showing or my haircut has grown out. And the best part is in many cases, you can set up these intervals and have them run automatically so that every color client gets a reminder at the right time. Every haircut client gets a reminder at the right time. You're not manually having to log in every day and pick a part through them. Strategy number four is to build loyalty through memberships. This one's a game changer that honestly still today not many salons are using. Memberships create recurring revenue and guaranteed rebookings. It's really a double win for you. And why memberships work so well for rebooking specifically is when someone pays a monthly fee for salon services, they are almost definitely going to use it. They've already committed financially, which is one of the hardest levels of commitment to get from a client, and that means they're also committed behaviorally. There's no maybe I'll book next month because they're already paying regardless. And the data backs this up too. What we've seen is that membership clients are going to rebook at about two to three times the rate of a regular client. They also spend more per visit on add-ons and retail because they already feel like they're getting a deal on the core service with the membership rate. Plus, memberships create habits. When someone comes in every four weeks like clockwork, it just becomes part of their routine. It's not something they decide anymore. It's not something they have to weigh and consider. It's just what they do. And that said, memberships aren't right for every client. This is true. But for your regulars who are coming in consistently already, it's an easy sell. If you say you're already coming every six weeks with our membership, you'd save 20% and get priority booking. What's not to love about that? Okay, so those are the four strategies. But now let's talk about how you can actually implement all of them with one single platform instead of lots of different disjointed tools. because the thing is you could piece all four of these strategies together with multiple tools. You could do one for email marketing, one for text marketing, a spreadsheet to track your lapsed clients, even physical sticky notes to remind your front desk to pre-book, which I think many of us still use today. Or you could use a platform that does all of it natively built in kind of all under one roof. I'm going to walk you through Boulevard, a salon software that has every single one of these rebooking strategies built in. Let me show you what this looks like in practice. So first we're going to look at pre-booking at checkout. So we're going to pick a client to check out here. And when you're checking anyone out in Boulevard, you're going to see these buttons for quick booking right here. Four, six, eight weeks. One click and it'll pull up all the available times at that interval. So this is great because now instead of your front desk saying, do you want to book your next appointment? And then scrolling through a calendar, meanwhile the client is standing there like, why would I not just call when I'm ready? This is wasting my time. They just ask, are you a four week or a six week person? What's your preference? One click and you can see what you have. You finish booking and you're done. The appointment is on the books before the client has even finished signing their receipt for the current service. And you can also customize these intervals based on your salon's most common service timing. So if your clients are more on a five week cycle, you can absolutely add a button for that. This seemingly tiny friction reduction makes a massive difference in your pre-booking rate because when it's easy, your team is actually going to do it. Your front desk isn't going to feel gun shy about saying, when would you like to come in next? What works best for you? But when it requires five clicks and calendar scrolling, they're going to skip it if there's a line, they're feeling busy or just generally pressured. Next, let's look at how Boulevard helps you identify clients who are slipping away. Under the reports section, you've got client retention data that shows you exactly who hasn't been back in 30, 60, 90 days or whatever threshold you set. And now the way I've got this sorted is by a list of names, but you can adjust this however you want. So you can look at package sales, location revisits, if you want to see which of your locations is getting more business from one specific client, membership sales, anything that you would want to see to really determine who is worth pursuing as a missed client. because your VIP client who spent, you know, 3k with you over two years and suddenly hasn't booked in 90 days, that is a red flag that you want to catch and hear immediately. Compared to a first time client who came once six months ago, still worth reaching out, but a completely different priority. And so the way that you build this report is going to allow you to see at a glance, not just who is missing and who is slipping away, but kind of how to prioritize that and who is the more important kind of level to go after. And now you can manually go through this list and choose who to reach out to one by one, but Boulevard has a much smarter way to handle this, and that is in the marketing suite. So Boulevard's marketing suite is where a lot of the automation magic happens. So we're going to build a new campaign here, and let's go with email for this one. So we're going to set up a We Miss You campaign, and we're going to send to clients who haven't visited in the last 24 months. And then you can choose not to send it to certain people. So if you have a group maybe that says that they never want to get marketing messages, but they want to be able to get confirmations from you via text, you could, for example, make a group of that here and exclude them, which is nice. So with our audience selected in the name of our campaign, we're going to hit next. And then you have so many customizable options here in order to make it really look and feel like your brand, which is great. We're going to go with this template to start with the Lux template, but there are quite a few different ones to help you capture the feel. And you can also pre-program these so that you're not picking a new template every single time you want to do a campaign. So we're going to do something like, we miss you. Your next appointment and receive 15% off. And there is so much that you can customize in here to really make it just a seamless extension of your brand and your business. But for the purpose of this, we are just going to save here and hit next. And then you can choose to send it later. If, for example, you're setting things up that you want to go out in advance, you know, maybe in October you set up your holiday campaign to save yourself time during the busy season. Or you can choose to send it now, in which this case we would because we want these people back in our chairs immediately. And then you would just hit send campaign now. And you can customize that audience, that messaging, as much as you want. You saw how fast that was. We're emailing, I believe it said something like 379 clients with this campaign, and it took us 60 seconds to put it together. And the last thing I want to look at with you is the memberships that we mentioned. So let's go to membership creation first. So here you can create any membership that you want. You set the monthly price, you can detail what's included, and any perks, which might include priority booking retail discounts. Once clients sign up, their card is charged automatically every single month. And what's really cool about this is you can come into sales and you can see all your members in one place. You can track their usage, you can see who's not redeeming their benefits. So if someone's paying for a membership but hasn't booked this month, that's a great opportunity to reach out and say, hey, you've still got your monthly services available. Want me to get you on the schedule? And you can absolutely connect this with that automated campaign that we just set up. So if you wanted to have it, just let people know when they haven't used that membership so that you don't have to set it up. It'll happen automatically. And that's really the magic of this. If you combine memberships with automated reminders or really any other combination of the tools in here, that's how you build a salon where rebooking is not something that you chase, but something that just happens automatically. All right, quick recap. Four strategies to increase rebooking rates. One, you're going to pre-book at checkout while the client is happiest. Two, you're going to automate we miss you campaigns for your lapsed clients. Three, you're going to send service-specific rebooking reminders before they forget. Four, build membership programs that guarantee recurring visits. You can implement these strategies with a patchwork of tools if you're already signed up for a few, or you can use a platform such as Boulevard that has all of it built in and working together. And that's it for strategies to increase rebooking at your salon. If you're already using any of these or you try any after watching this, Drop a comment and let us know how it's working. Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one!

Try the Boulevard demo here: https://try.joinblvd.com/irrysv I break down why so many salons lose 65–70% of first-time clients and how simple shifts in rebooking systems can completely change retention. I explain how clients often leave happy but never return simply because no one asked them to come back, and how busy schedules or another salon’s ad can redirect them. I cover the real difference between struggling and thriving salons and show the four strategies that consistently increase booking rates. I walk through why pre-booking at checkout is the highest-impact moment to secure the next appointment, how using “when” language and quick 4-, 6-, and 8-week booking buttons removes friction, and why this alone can lift rebooking rates from 30% into the 60–80% range. I also show how automated “we miss you” campaigns re-engage clients who cancel, forget, or drift away, using personalized text and email outreach that triggers based on timing. I explain how service-specific rebooking reminders work—3–4 weeks for men’s cuts, 5–6 for color, 10–12 for keratin—and why these reminders are different from lapsed-client campaigns. Then I break down how memberships drive recurring revenue, guaranteed rebookings, and two to three times higher retention, plus priority booking, perks, and routine-building behavior. Finally, I demonstrate how to implement all four strategies using a single platform instead of scattered tools. I show how quick-book buttons work at checkout, how to identify slipping clients in retention reports, how to build and send automated campaigns in minutes, how to structure memberships with monthly billing, and how to track member usage to reach out when benefits go unused. These systems turn rebooking into something that happens automatically instead of something you chase. #salonmarketing #salonbusiness #clientretention #salonstrategies #salonsoftware #rebooking #beautybusiness #hairbusiness #salonowners #growyoursalon
