Who's Inspired You on International Women's Day?

Let me tell you her story. Beryl Markham was born in England, grew up in Kenya. She was the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean from east to west, and she wrote a memoir about it called West with the Night. I first read Beryl's story when I had my first job out of college. I was commuting into Boston on the train every day, and when I pulled the book out this morning, I actually found an old Anyway, after Beryl had published her story, her ex-husband claimed that it was actually he and not Beryl, who was the true author of the book. At which point Beryl was like, she produced a manuscript that she had submitted to her editor before Beryl and her ex-husband had actually even met. Beryl is a true hero not only for that flight, but also for standing up for herself, for not allowing anybody to disrespect or discredit her and not allowing anyone else to own her story.

In honor of International Women’s Day, Oracle + GirlGeekX asked me to share a story of a woman who has inspired me. So I did. If you're thinking it *has* to be Tina Fey (because TINA!)... well, NOPE. I dug deeper to tell *this* story....
