Over the past decade, cloud economics have compressed from “pay for the whole server” to “pay for only what you use.” We shifted from hourly virtual-machine pricing, to per-second billing, to serverless functions metered in milliseconds - and now platforms charge per database query or even per word (“token”) processed by an AI model.

This brief talk traces that journey and explains how "capability-as-a-meter" pricing helps teams of any size to compose software from granular, on-demand building blocks while generating maximum value out of every millisecond and token. [...]
