If I had a dollar for every copywriter sending cold DMs that looked like ChatGBT and LinkedIn had an inbred bastard son, I'd be lying on a giant gold hammock in Bali sipping a coconut right now. But instead, I'm sitting here making this for you because someone has to stop you from sending another message that goes, Hey first name, I help entrepreneurs scale to seven figures using proven marketing frameworks. Like, fuck me, are you writing a cover letter for Harvard? No one is replying to that shit unless they've had three concussions and a spiritual awakening. And then I hear copywriters saying shit like, DMs don't work, everyone ghosts me, maybe I need more testimonials, maybe I'll try crypto trading instead. No, my dear friend, DMs work. You just sound like everyone else, because here's what apparently no one's told you, is that your first client isn't going to hire you because you're some kind of copywriting genius. They'll hire you because you didn't come across like a copy-paste dopamine fiend who watched one Jordan Welsh reel and thought, I got this. And that's exactly what this script I'm about to give you fixes. It's short, it works, and it lands on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Tinder, Grindr, wherever your dream clients are hanging out. Fun fact, I actually did have a student who landed two clients on Hinge. You can check out our interview here to see how he did it. Because just like every other kind of copy, it's not just about what you say. It's about when, where, and how you say it. So in this video, I am breaking down the exact DM scripts that my students and I have used to land clients in as little as 24 hours, even if they've never had a client before. So no, you don't need a fancy portfolio, years of experience, or a 10-step funnel to land clients. You just need one message that hits the right person at the right time with the right offer. Most freelancers somehow manage to screw all three of them up. But you found me, so that's exactly what we're going to fix here today. If we've never met, by the way, my name is Sean Ferris. I've been coaching copywriters for seven years, and I've helped 83 of them hit a six or even seven-figure income. Now, before I hand you the actual script, you need to understand why most DMs get ghosted harder than a random dude texting you up at 2am. Not even kidding, these are real cold DMs that copywriters have sent me in the past. If you're sending shit like this, congratulations. You've just unlocked the fastest way to get ghosted. As a business owner, I get dozens of these messages every single week. So trust me when I say that business owners know the difference between a copy-paste generic pitch versus someone who understands the game. The reason you're getting ghosted is because you sound like a gold digger. Your prospects don't feel seen. They feel prospected. And it gets even worse when you pitch immediately. You're trying to sell them before they even know your name. You wouldn't walk up to a random girl on the street and be like, hey, wanna fuck? or ask a stranger to be your girlfriend. So why would it be any different in the business world? Of course, prospects ignore your messages when you pitch them straight away. Not because they didn't see your message. Believe me, these guys check their emails and DMs regularly. It's not because you're being rude or because they hate copywriters. It's because your message didn't give them a single reason to care. And the numbers back it up. Statistics show that cold outreach conversion rates are typically between 0.2 and 2%. 2% being the end of the spectrum you obviously want to be on. And hint, hint. When your message is personal, specific, and easy to reply to, that's when we get to the 2% range, which is extremely high if you think about it. That's one out of 50 prospects becoming a client. So if you're sending outreach and your inbox is still empty, it's not the platform, it's you. Most freelancers will sit there and keep blaming the algorithm or their niche or literally anything else instead of actually fixing the messaging. But as someone who's done this for the better part of a decade, all you need to land clients in the DMs is something that grabs their attention, feels human, and makes saying yes easy. That is exactly how I've been able to get responses from titans like Bejos Koolian on Instagram within 10 minutes at 6 in the morning, despite him having over a million followers and running a nine-figure business. And we ended up working together on a project. That is the power of DMs when done right. But before I hand you the copy-paste script, okay, I want to break down how this is actually designed. Because if you don't understand the psychology behind it, you'll fuck up the wrong parts and then wonder why you're not getting responses. The script you're about to see runs on three key principles. And every single failed outreach message I've ever seen breaks at least one of them. Principle number one, attention comes before intention. That first line of your message is everything. If it doesn't feel relevant, specific, or different from what they're used to seeing, they're out and you don't get a second date. Your message needs to clearly show them that this is for them and them only and could not have possibly been copy pasted and sent to anyone else. It needs to make them pause for a second, bypass the outgroup bias and open a loop that they'll want to close. Just like the good old ADA marketing formula, your first goal is to not get ignored because if you do, then guess what? Nothing else matters. Principle number two is provide utility. Everyone always talks about giving value, but no one ever says what that looks like or how to do it properly. Utility is specific value that is highly relevant to that person. So level one outreach is just pitching people straight away. Obviously, we don't want to do this. These are millionaire business owners. They're not going to take time out of their day to do you a favor for the sake of it. The second your message sounds like you're asking for something, you lose leverage. And when that happens, the entire conversation dies. Level two outreach is giving value. So people try offering things like free trials, welcome sequences, funnel audits, wonder why it doesn't work. And well, it's because it's a generic offer. Who says they even need help with that thing? You're just guessing. And then level three, we have utility, which is you doing a tiny bit of research to find specific things that they're actually likely to need help with. So instead of just saying, hire me, I'll work for free, this script flips it by positioning your offer as a solution to a burning problem that they actually have. And believe me, this change alone will 10X your responses. And finally, principle number three, make it stupid easy to respond. Most DMs get ignored because they're salesy, vague, or sound like an essay. You ask some open-ended question, hoping that they'll fill in the gaps. People are busy, dude. You have like five seconds of their time. If your message forces them to think about whether they want it or not, or what to reply, it's too much of it, and they're just going to ignore it. The DM script I'm about to give you changes that. It's concise and ends with a clear yes or no question, which makes replying Effortless. When these three principles are in place, your outreach doesn't feel like a sales trap. It feels like a legit person reaching out for the right reasons. That's why it works even for beginners who don't have a bunch of testimonials yet, but they do know how to get their clients' results. All right, enough foreplay. You've seen why your DMs are taking harder than your New Year's resolutions. You know what's going wrong. So now, let's walk through the exact script template my students and I have used successfully for years, line by line, so you can model it, adapt, and start sending it today. And please do not copy this word for words. We have 29,000 copywriters running around sending the exact same script, like we did with my clients on command DM lead magnet years ago, okay? I ran so many ads to that thing, it was used by so many copywriters that prospects literally started responding like, nice script, Sean Ferris taught you well, because no one changed it, okay? So please. Engage that beautiful prefrontal cortex of yours and model the principles here, not the exact wording. So when I'm sending this, I like to start with a line that goes something like, yo, name, totally random, but are you still running insert offer right now? That's the opener. And here's why people actually reply to this. First, it's casual. There's no, hi, first name, hope you're doing well. Brother, this isn't LinkedIn and you're not applying for a summer internship. Second, it feels specific. You're not saying some generic, I help businesses grow line. You're pointing to something that they actually are doing. And third, the question creates curiosity and a healthy bit of tension. The, are you still running thing? Makes them pause and think, well, yeah, you know, why do you ask? And if they're asking that, it means we've achieved the first goal, which is to get their attention. Now. How do you find their current offer name? You do like 30 seconds of research. It's not too hard. Check their profile. Scroll their posts, their stories, their highlight reels. Google them. Join their email list. Search them up in meta ads library. Find the main thing they're promoting. Believe me, no one is trying to actively hide their products from their potential customers. They're shoving it in your face. This isn't difficult. But just simply mentioning this shows that you paid more attention than like 95% of the spam outreach is flooding their inbox. It shows you actually follow them, you're in their world, and you actually have some context and insider knowledge on their business. That one detail instantly makes you stand out. And the next line of the script is where you position yourself without sounding desperate. You're going to say something like, had an idea that might make it way easier to... insert specific win. Again, this is where most people screw up. They say some shit like, I help coaches scale to seven figures using advanced marketing frameworks. Stop. No one cares. Your positioning line needs to be implied, not overtly stated. Unless you have extreme credibility, you've worked with massive clients, then sure, say that. But you're not selling anything at this point, so chill. You're just saying, hey, I noticed something's off and I think I can make it easier. The magic word here is easier. Everyone wants easier. No one wants another funnel or some complex strategy. They want the shortcut. So let's say you're talking to a coach. You say, hey, I had an idea that might make it way easier to fill those open spots on your calendar. Or if it's an online course creator, hey, I had an idea that might make it way easier to get more students enrolled this month. For e-com, it could be, hey, I had an idea that might make it easier to move your product name. And from there, you close with a short yes or no question. cool if I send it over, or my favorite, cool if I share it here. This makes prospects feel seen and heard. You're not invading their space, sending over random pitches, or forcing anything onto them. It's relevant, valuable, and non-needy. And if they're interested, they'll just say, yeah, sure. And if they're not, they'll just ignore it and move on. So putting it all together, the DM script looks like this. Yo, totally random, but are you still running insert offer right now? Send, had an idea that might make it way easier to insert win, book more calls, make more sales, whatever. Send, cool if I share it here? Send. Three lines. That's it. Now, I generally prefer to send this as a story reply and not a DM out of the blue because it just looks more organic when you do that. Like you were just sort of scrolling through your feed and then you saw the story and then you're like, oh yeah, I have this idea. Then you replied to them. It just comes across a lot more natural. Versus a cold DM out of the blue, it just seems a bit more pre-planned, like they were a name on a hit list, you know? It's a small thing, but it really does go a long way. Now, if you're only able to send one message because of Instagram's messaging restrictions, then you got a couple different options. Number one is you could just send the three messages together in one block. Or number two, what I prefer to do, especially if it's a dream prospect, you can just play the slightly longer game and reply to their story unrelated to your offer at all, which is something relevant and a statement or question that gets them to accept the message request and reply. For example, maybe they're skiing in Niseko Village in Japan, and you replied to their story with, best ski spot on earth, make sure you check out the hidden igloo bar near the Hilton. Something like that. Just be cool, right? If they accept a message and reply, reply back with something relevant, have a conversation like a normal person, then you can segue it into, hey, by the way, are you still running? Insert offer name right now. Then wait for them to reply because you guys are already going back and forth a bit, then hit them with the other two messages afterwards. It works because it does what outreach is supposed to do. It grabs their attention, makes them curious, and then gets them to respond. But getting the reply is only step one. We still need to get them interested enough to book a call or hear more about what you have to offer because the call is where you actually make money. So let's walk through what that looks like. So let's say they reply to your message with something like, yeah, I'm still running it. What's the idea? Or sure, hit me with it. Or depends what it is. Ha ha. Something like that. Cool. We got their attention. Now you want to move the conversation from maybe to let's talk. So here's exactly what to say. You go, cool. I had a minute, so I shot a quick three-minute loom mapping out a super simple way to insert benefit again, curious to hear your thoughts, link. That's it. You're offering a quick fix for something that's already bugging them. What's in the loom? Simple. You pick one hyper-specific angle or optimization they can make in their funnel that plugs straight into their existing strategy. Some sort of bolt-on service that can generate extra calls or sales without needing to change their whole funnel. The easier setup this is and the more results it can bring, the higher the take rate you're going to have. So you film a short two to three minute Loom VSL going over the high level strategy. Okay, the what, not the how. Don't give it away. Otherwise they're not going to book a call. Trust me, I made that mistake too many times. Mention any proof you have of the system actually generating results for people. If you don't have client results, well, you can simply make an observation about the top competitors or just industry leaders who are using that strategy as well. So you borrow credibility from them. Then at the end, you pitch a simple 20 minute call to show them the strategy in depth. The way you pitch the call is very important, okay? Do not just say, hey, want to get on a call? No one, especially high level business owners want to get on a call with complete strangers, just like you don't want to get on a call with complete strangers who are trying to sell you stuff. So you have to position the call itself as being a valuable use of their time. So you say, if you want to see how this works, I'll drop my calendar below, book a time, quick 15 or 20 minutes, and I'll walk you through the full system. And then at the end, if you want to hire me to just do it for you, then we can talk about that, but no pressure. I'll still show you either way. So this way, we position the call itself as being valuable. So people actually book it, but the key is we don't want to position it like a free coaching call where they're just going to get value because then they hop on expecting free coaching and then it's kind of awkward when you're going to try and sell them something. So framing it like that gets us the best of both worlds. And if you want to see an example of what one of these looms looks like in action, I did a full breakdown in this video right here. You can click here to check it out after this. At the bottom of the video, in the description and the comments, you're going to throw a link into your calendar right there for them to book the call. And if they don't self-book in after watching the video, which most people won't, then just hit them with the same exact call offer in the DMs. Some people will book a call. In which case, boom, job done. Now, you just use the closing script in my free sales training here to close the deal. Now, most people, of course, won't book a call. And this is totally normal. Sales is a normal game. And you're going to lose people at every step. People are busy. They go to business, kids, gym, a life. It doesn't mean they're not interested. It just means you, a random stranger, are not top of mind in their life. It's fine. Chill. Give it 48 hours. If they still don't reply, then you can follow up with something light. Like, totally cool. Now's not the right time. Just wanted to make sure this didn't get lost in the meta void or whatever. Just a simple, non-needy follow-up that reopens the conversation. And if they don't reply, do curl up into a ball and cry? Go. You follow up again. 80% of your sales are in the follow-up, not the first interaction. The money usually shows up around the second, third, fourth, fifth follow-up. That is where actual deals close. And I promise you, it's totally fine to follow up. You only look like an idiot if you follow up the wrong way. If your follow-ups just sound like some LinkedIn guy just circling back for the fourth time, then yeah, they're going to keep ignoring you. But if you're keeping it light, specific, and valuable each time, well, that is when you stay in the game long enough to actually win it. So rather than hitting them with, hey, just following up five fucking times, try something else. No response. is a response it means your offer didn't intrigue them enough to reply so try a different angle bring new information to the table expand on your original message bring a different benefit pain point or proof related to that first angle or try another angle hey by the way i also noticed x thing in your funnel that could be driving potential customers away shot a 60 second screen share for you here link i love that one as a follow-up Often I'll actually use that as the initial outreach message because it's just so powerful psychologically. This idea that a busy business owner who's busking his ass and spending tons of money on ads is actively doing something to drive potential customers away is very painful. Also, memes. Memes absolutely bang as follow-ups. In fact, I got a peek inside the acquisition.com internal outreach playbook. And then number one follow-up is just sending the person some zesty memes. It's great. They've got to be tasteful bangers though, okay? Now, if you want more info on follow-ups and how to do it properly, I do have a full video dedicated to that. You can watch it right here. Hopefully you can see by now that this DM doesn't work because there's some magic words. It works because it changes how you show up. You're not trying to look impressive. You're trying to actually connect to them as a person. You're not sitting around waiting to build a portfolio first. You're testing offers in real time and talking to people who can pay you today. And yes, you can land clients with just this script. I've had students do it in as little as 24 hours, including me. But here's the reality. No one DM is going to build you a business. Hate to break it to you. If you want to turn this into a system that brings in clients every single month, you need the rest of it. How do you actually find people who can afford to pay you? How do you package your offer so it practically sells itself? How do you close calls without sounding like you're doing a bad Wolf of Wall Street impression? Well, that is what I break down inside my free zero to 10k a month copywriter series right here on YouTube. You don't even have to leave. In the free series, I teach a proven system that's helped dozens of people go from total beginners to making 10K a month as copywriters in as little as a few weeks. It's the same system used by people like Katrina, who is an English teacher, and landed a first 1,500 a month client in her first week. Tyson, a carpenter, went from 0 to 20K a month in 10 months. Luca, a 16-year-old high school student, made 10K in 25 days while still handing in homework every day. Fucks me how I did that. Logan went from homeless to six figures in six months and ended up being featured in the Daily Mail. The script you learn today gets your foot in the door. This free course shows you how to actually walk in and run the room. So if you're tired of throwing offers together, chasing random leads, and wondering where your next client's going from, click here to get started with part one. The people who actually commit to this are stacking clients while everyone else is still asking, how do we get started in Facebook groups? I think you know which type of person you are. Subscribe and I'll see you there.
